WELCOME to the Veterinary Curriculum Database. The information contained in this "stack" was collected during the 1987-88 school year from instructors of all core and elective courses offered in the University of Illinois Veterinary Curriculum. To continue reading click on the down arrow on the scroll bar at the right. Click on the up arrow to "scroll" the other direction.
The Veterinary Curriculum Database "stack" was created to help faculty and students explore and evaluate our curriculum. You may want to use it to:
1. Find out where in the curriculum a particular course or subject is
taught, what is covered, and who teaches it.
2. Find out what electives are offered, what topics are discussed, and
when electives are offered.
3. Design your own "elective tract" to develop expertise in particular
areas over the 4-year curriculum.
4. Find out what instructor teaches what course.
5. Find a faculty member with expertise in a particular subject area.
6. Check for consistency of your course material with other courses
covering the same topic.
7. Evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum in meeting subject
requirements for AVMA accreditation, licensure, and career tracts.
8. Find a guest lecturer or someone with expertise in a particular area.
9. Find where students have heard or will hear about a particular topic.
The stack consists of a series of "cards" (there are 148 in all) and is divided into four components: (1) COURSE SEQUENCE, (2) COURSE CATALOG, (3) COURSE SYLLABI, and (4) SUBJECT INDEX. You can use the
"mouse" to access ANY information contained in the database. Simply "point to" and "click" on course names, subject index words, arrows, "buttons", or icons to get where you want to go. These things will not appear at the same place on every card, but they will all do the same thing. The "flying pages" icon on the bottom left will run through all "cards" in the stack until you click the mouse or return to where you started. The "bent arrow" on the lower right will return you to the last card you were looking at. The subject index icon (upper right) will take you to the subject index from anywhere in the database. You can return to this "Instruction" card by clicking the appropriate button anywhere in the stack.
The "Find String" "button" below will allow you to type in a whole word or part of a word to search. Press "Return" on the keyboard to find successive occurrences of the word which will be outlined with a rectangle. Click the small square in the "Find" box to stop the search.
Don't be afraid to experiment. If you have comments or suggestions write them down and leave them in Dr. Ronald D. Smith's mailbox in the VP department. If you're from out of town my mailing address is the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois, 2001 South Lincoln, Urbana, IL 61801 (telf: (217) 333-3290). This database will be continually updated as more information becomes available. Now click the "Table of Contents" button to start.
